Wanna Help?

AM Peeps, we have a transportation need within the congregation.  A gentleman who is living in a facility in Raleigh (close to the Crabtree / downtown area) needs a ride to church on Sunday morning, either service.

If you’re interested in helping out, e-mail me.

Week of Hope Sign Ups Are Now Live!

…well, okay, they were actually live yesterday, but this blog never claimed to be up-to-the minute.

You can begin signing up for dozens of ministry opportunities by clicking here.  Our goal as a campus is 100% participation.  Brier Creek AM has specifically adopted Maureen Joy Charter School, Kestrel Heights Charter School, and Oak Grove Elementary School.  We’d love to see you at one of those sites during Week of Hope!

This Week @ The Creek…

  • Starting Point happens at 12:30 in the Bay.  If you’ve never been, you should go.  It’s the…well, it’s the starting point for everything at the Summit.  Whether you need a SummitLIFE group, a ministry team, or a group of friends, SP is the place for you.  No RSVP is required, free food and childcare is provided, and we’ll finish by 1:30.
  • It’s kidslife Promotion Sunday for students who have just completed the 6th grade.  K5 through 5th graders bump up next week.  There will be no white robes and tassels, no pomp and circumstance, and no weepy grandmas…you just show up and we’ll get you where you’re going.  Have a 2, 3, or 4 year old?  They won’t move up until August 23rd.
  • Week of Hope sign ups begin Sunday.  You’ll find more ministry than you can shake a stick at right here.
  • We’re giving away money.  In a SummitLIFE group?  Let us partner with you to bless your community during Week of Hope.  More info here.
  • T-shirts for sale Sunday to promo Week of Hope.  Five bucks.  Great deal.  Get one.

Re:Sound Happens Tonight

Yesterday was the kickoff of Advance ’09 at the DPAC, and it was an incredible day.  Tonight at 7:30 in the Auditorium, you can get in on a free worship event featuring the bands from Vintage21 (Raleigh), Sojourn (Louisville) and Mars Hill (Seattle).  Don’t miss it.

Sending Off the Woodbridge Family

woodbridgecard3

On Sunday we said goodbye to a high-octane family that’s been a part of the Summit for the last five years.  Russell, Ingrid, Evelyn, Sabrina, Markus, & Lukas flew out Sunday morning to Ukraine, where they will serve for the next season of their life.  Russell will be teaching at Kiev Theological Seminary, where he’ll be training Ukranian church planters to go out from their country as missionaries.  Ingrid will be serving in local church ministry, working with both women’s and counseling ministry.

Summit, you’re continuing to build a reputation as a sending church.  We don’t hang on to good people…we send them out to serve in the uttermost parts of the earth!

Here are a few ways you can pray for and support the Woodbridge fam:

  • Pick up a copy of their prayer card (pictured above) at the Coffee Bar on Sunday morning.
  • E-mail Russell if you’d like to be a part of their prayer updates.
  • Check out their new blog (and add it to your RSS feed) to keep up with life in Kiev.

Up For a Road Trip?

Hey AM Campus Peeps, here’s a great opportunity for you to take a day and serve this summer: Angel Tree Camps are looking for churches to transport children of inmates to their summer events at Camp Mundo Vista (close to Asheboro).  If you’re available to serve or would like more information, please contact Judy Branch at Women’s Missionary Union of NC.

Week of Hope Preview

Today’s post is courtesy of Matt Clark, Community and Church Planting Associate.

Hey Gang – I am the Community and Church Planting Associate… or for your purposes, the missions representative for Brier Creek AM.  You can always find me hanging out by the coffee bar talking about missions and outreach.

At the Brier Creek AM campus have an opportunity to make an instant impact on the community around us.  Can you imagine what would happen if all 1,500 of us showed up at a project to serve?!  Well, we are going to be a little more strategic than that – we are planning to spread out to several projects during the Week of Hope.  This year we have several “campus specific” projects that will give us the opportunity serve beside people that we usually just see in passing on Sunday mornings.

We are going to continue our ministry to Durham County Schools by starting new partnerships with 3 schools within a 10 mile radius of the Brier Creek Campus.  Please consider investing part of Friday or Saturday of the Week of Hope serving these wonderful schools:

  • Oak Grove Elementary – a school that is 85% African American, 10% Hispanic and is lead by a dynamic principal Andrea Carroll.
  • Maureen-Joy Charter  – a free, public, open-enrollment school where over 85% of students qualify for “free lunch.”
  • Kestrel Heights School – a local public charter school that boasts our own Willis Foster as a member of their faculty.

How can you get signed up?  Starting this Sunday you can go to www.hopeforrdu.org/week-of-hope/ and find all the information you need.  We will also have sign-up available at the SummitLIFE kiosk in the lobby on Sunday morning.  Another heads up for this Sunday: bring $5 and you can be the first to own this year’s Week of Hope T-shirt.  These shirts will not only advertise our ministry, but will be a catalyst for discussions on the value of each individual in our city.

This Week @ The Creek…

Okay peeps, here’s what you need to know:

  • On Sunday we’re saying goodbye to an awesome family as we commission them to the mission field.  We’ll be praying for Russell & Ingrid Woodbridge and their kids (Evelyn, Sabrina, Lukas, & Markus) in both services.
  • Vacation Bible School is coming this summer (June 22-26), but the early bird deadline is Monday.  Sign up by then and you not only go for free, but you get a free VBS shirt, sign up afterward and you’re paying ten bucks (but hey, we’ll still give you the shirt).  Sign up here.
  • Re:Sound is a week away. It’s the world-wide launch of the musical arm of The Resurgence, and it’s a FREE event at the Brier Creek Campus.  Come and worship with the bands from Vintage21 (Raleigh), Sojourn (Louisville) and Mars Hill (Seattle).  And if there weren’t enough hyperlinks in that sentence, here’s one more.
  • Hope for RDU grants are available for your SummitLIFE Group!  We’ve set aside $10k to empower our groups to minister to their neighbors.  To apply and find out more, click here.

Brier Creek Blogaliciousness

Ladies and gentlemen, sound the trumpet, toss the confetti, break out the sparkling grape soda…the Brier Creek AM blog has officially launched!

That’s right, just in time for blogging to be outdated and overtaken by the menacing evil known as Twitter, we’re pulling up a chair in our little corner of cyberspace in an attempt to keep the AM family updated on the ins and outs of life at Brier Creek.

This is your one-stop shop for all Brier Creek-related news, announcements, breaking updates, and…oh, who am I kidding?  There’s only so many ways you can expound on the word “news.”  Suffice it to say, there will be lots of stuff going on these pages all the time.  Put us in your Google Reader or RSS feed or NewsGator or FeedZilla or whatever kind of techno-goobery you subscribe to.

My name is Danny.  I’m the Brier Creek AM Campus Pastor, and I’ll be but one of the leaders of this online journey.  Stay tuned, people, it’s gonna be a fun ride…

(Meanwhile, drop us a comment below and let us know you’re here!)
